The College of Engineering and Technology (CoET) originated from the Faculty of Engineering (FoE), established at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 1973.

Vision and Mission

Academic Structure

The College of Engineering and Technology is organised into several departments. Each department is equipped with several undergraduate and postgraduate programs as mentioned here.

1. Chemical And Process Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Process Engineering (CPE) provides Education, Research, and Outreach focusing on the Sustainable Development of Chemicals, Materials, and Minerals and the Science and Technology of non-renewable Resources Products from Natural and Recycled Materials.

2. Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering had its first undergraduate intake in 1973 with only 7 students.

Since then, enrollment has increased significantly to 60 students per intake. The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam blends a strong undergraduate program with an active research-based

A Bachelor’s degree takes four years, and a Master’s degree by coursework and dissertation takes 18 months. Master’s programme by thesis takes two years.

Furthermore, the department offers Master’s by Thesis, and a few candidates are carrying Ph.D studies in the department of electrical engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam.

3. Structural and Construction Engineering

The Department of Structural and Construction Engineering (SCE) was established in July 2009 after merging the former Department.

nt of Structural Engineering and the Department of Construction Technology and Management under the then Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE) in the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET), the first campus college of the University of Dar es Salaam.

SCE is involved in education and advanced training of engineers in the field of design, analysis, technology and management of civil engineering structures such as low and high-rise buildings, bridges, towers, underground structures, silos, fluid tanks and others.

The Department also conducts applied research and development in building materials, design, analysis, construction technology, and management of structures and public procurement.

The department provides professional services to the construction industry, government, and other organizations.

4. Department of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering (TGE)

The Department of Transportation and Geo-technical Engineering was established in 2001 to provide studies in Foundation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Highway Engineering, Soil Mechanics, and Geomatics.

This Department offers Postgraduate Programmes leading to the Award of Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering with specialization in Transportation Engineering, Master of Science in Highway Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D).

5. Water Resource Engineering

The Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE) was established in 2001 from the Water Section of the then Faculty of Engineering (FoE) following its reorganization into a College of Engineering and Technology (CoET).

6. Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) is one of the six academic Departments under the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET).
